Village house
Buchen, Switzerland
New Construction, 2021
Info
Buchen is a village in Graubünden. In the middle of the listed village centre stands a newly built contemporary wooden structure. Currently used as a studio, the construction blends into the style of the village with a discreet elegance. Characteristic building elements drawn from the surrounding houses and barns are naturally integrated into the modern design: the simple volume, the dark-stained wooden façade, the gable structure and the covered entrance that is so typical of the neighbouring houses. The natural materiality of both the interior and exterior of the house creates a captivating feel. The rooms extend over two floors and can be used flexibly as an apartment and office. The restrained design of the house is reinforced by the reduced number of openings. There is just one five-metre-long panoramic window and a strip of windows concealed behind a wooden screen on the ground floor.
